“Looking for a photographer that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg” is something I see at least once a week on social media sites (facebook) where people search for things like wedding photographers.
Now I assure you that I don’t require any of your limbs as payment for my photography service and I am not the most expensive photographer out there, but I am probably not the “cheapest” either. I completely understand being on a budget and trying to find a good deal, but are your wedding photos the place to do that? According to some wedding day experts your wedding photography should be about 20% of the wedding day total budget.
Here are a few things to consider when choosing a wedding photographer for your special day other than price.
- Do you love their photography? Check out their website and social media pages to see if you like the “feel” and style of their photography. It should represent the kind of images you will receive from that photographer.
- Would you want that photographer spending your wedding day with you? Do you like him/her and do you all click? The photographer is a part of all the moments of your special day. They are with you almost all day. The best way to find this out is to meet with the photographer and most photographers do offer a free consultation.
- How comfortable are you with knowing you will get quality images and great customer service? How many years experience does this photographer have? How are their reviews? Here are a few questions to ask a photographer at a consultation. How many cameras do you bring? Is there a back up photographer? What would you do if there was no electricity? Poor light? Uncooperative groomsmen? What if we change things up last minute?
When your special day is over and the dress is cleaned and packed and the flowers are all wilted, the one thing you should be able to count on is your photographs.
The images you have from your wedding day photography should hold all the memories of your wedding day and everything special about it. You may not remember how dinner tasted or if everyone was impressed by your decorations, but your photos of that day can be shared, enjoyed, and used to create prints, cards, books, and wall art. The photography is not the area to go cheap or take chances on a budget photographer! Yes, it should be about this awesome human that you love and want to share your life with, so capture all that love with some great images!
