What is a business Headshot supposed to look like?

Even though a business headshot photo can be quite simple I get the question all the time from clients, what should my business headshot look like? Or what do I need? This is something that can be figured out just by asking some basic questions. How often do headshots need to be updated? There is no rule for that anymore, it just matters if your headshot photo still feels current, relevant, and it still looks like you!

If you work for a company that is asking for a headshot you will want to find out if they have any requirements like background, what you can wear, or even file size or orientation. Make sure you get was you need and what you like!

If you work for yourself or have the freedom to have your headshot photos look however you want, then you might ask yourself these questions.
1. Where are they going? Is there a specific place on your website your image is going? What size is that space? Where else will you want to upload your headshots?
2. What do you do for a career? What is appropriate for a background, dress, pose, and expression for that?
3. Is this for a billboard? This is important for the photographer so the right camera settings are used for a very large file.
4. Do you need more than one look? Maybe you look nice and polished for LinkedIn but on other social media accounts you want to look a little more fun?
5. Who is your ideal client? Knowing who you are trying to attract as a customer can be helpful when planning a session.
